Research question †How many molecules are there in a liquid drop? Essay

Factors †Autonomous variable †The idea of the fluid drop. Subordinate variable †Mass of fluid drop. Constants †* Concentration of the fluids * The volume of a drop * Temperature of the fluids Speculations and forecast †The heavier the fluid utilized for example a fluid with a high relative molar mass, the more the quantity of atoms per drop. I anticipate this as the RMM (relative molar mass) is the proportion of the mass of particles that make up a mole of a substance, and henceforth the higher the mass is, the more the quantity of atoms there must be. In this way, the fluid would have increasingly number of atoms per unit volume when contrasted with one with a lower RMM, remembering a similar fixation is taken. Mechanical assembly †1. Estimating scale, in grams (à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 0.01 g) 2. Dropper 3. Measuring glass, 50 ml 4. Refined water 5. Glycerine 6. Ethanol 7. Ethylene glycol 8. Tissue paper Technique †1. We gathered the mechanical assembly required and estimated the mass of the 50 ml measuring utencil. We called it m1. 2. Utilizing a dropper, we put 20 drops of water in the measuring utencil. We estimated the mass of the measuring glass + water, and called it m2. The mass of the 20 drops of water was found by taking away m1 from m2. The appropriate response was partitioned by 20 to discover the mass of one drop of water. 3. We rehashed stage 2, with water, utilizing 40, 60, 80 and 100 drops. This made the examination increasingly exact for example gave an increasingly exact mass of the water drop. 4. at that point, we rehashed stages 3 and 4 with the three different fluids †ethanol, glycerine and ethylene glycol. 5. Qualities were noted down. Further figurings were made utilizing the mole condition †Number of moles = What's more, additionally utilizing Avogadro’s steady, where the quantity of atoms in a single mole of a substance is 6.023 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿⠽㠯⠿â ½. Controlling, differing and checking the factors †> The autonomous variable was fluctuated by utilizing not one, however four distinct sorts of fluid. These were †refined water, glycerine, ethanol and ethylene glycol. These fluids have distinctive relative sub-atomic masses. > The difference in the needy variable were checked by utilizing an estimating scale to watch the adjustment in the majority of a similar number of drops when various fluids were attempted. > The controlled factors were kept steady:- (an) All the four fluids had a similar grouping of 1 mol/dm㠯⠿â ½. This was essential as an adjustment in the fixation creates an adjustment in the quantity of moles of the fluid in the drop. (b) The drops were the entirety of similar sizes, and subsequently of a similar volume. the volume was saved consistent by utilizing a similar dropper for every preliminary, and moreover, by applying a similar weight (from the fingers) to the bulb of the dropper. (c) The temperature of the fluid was important to keep consistent as even inconsequential changes in temperatures can cause a fluid to extend or contract, changing its volume. The analysis was completed at room temperature, for all preliminaries. The temperature of the environmental factors was unaltered all through the investigation for example the temperature of the climate control system was not modified. Gathering applicable and adequate information †Prior to the trial, a few preliminaries were executed so as to get an essence of the trial and perceive and change any mistakes. Instances of mistakes incorporate applying various measures of weight on the dropper bulb, giving us drops of various volumes. We additionally saw that occasionally, pretty much drops were included than required, because of not watching admirably or tallying the quantity of drops being placed into the measuring glass cautiously. We revised this by giving more consideration to the quantity of drops being placed into the measuring glass. These mistakes were made right and taking preliminaries before the examination guaranteed we had an increasingly exact, precise and important investigation. We additionally chose to accept the mass as the needy variable, rather than volume, as we were given an estimating scale which was considerably more exact (à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 0.01 g) when contrasted with even the most precise estimating chamber (10 ml, à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 0.1 ml). This decreased the general vulnerability of the hardware utilized and thus the general mistake of the examination, and made the information progressively important and certain. Then again, it was ensured adequate information was gathered as we took five distinct preliminaries (20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 drops) for every one of the four fluids, just to average it down and get the mass of one drop (for every fluid). Moreover, we estimated the majority of high quantities of drops ex:- 60, 80, 100 drops and so on as the higher the quantity of drops, the lesser the blunder vulnerability. The standard deviations of the midpoints of each arrangement of drops has not been determined, as it isn’t the last worth required (for example the normal mass of one drop is the last worth required). I have adjusted those midpoints to three decimal spots (rather than one) as the qualities are little. The normal mass of one drop has been adjusted to indistinguishable number of spots from the standard deviation, that is two huge figures. The figurings are appeared on the accompanying page. Counts †* The midpoints have been determined the accompanying way:- For instance, taking the qualities for water = = = 0.0634 = 6.3 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿⠽㠯⠿â ½ (to one dp) * The standard deviation for the midpoints have been discovered in the accompanying manner:- 1. First the normal of the qualities have been found. Taking the case of the estimations of water the normal is 6.3 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿⠽㠯⠿â ½ g (0.0634 g). 2. At that point, the distinction between each perusing and the normal was found. That is: 0.058 †0.0634 = - 0.0054 0.059 †0.0634 = - 0.0044 0.065 †0.0634 = 0.0016 0.067 †0.0634 = 0.0036 0.068 †0.0634 = 0.0046 3. Next, these distinctions were squared (so as to expel any negative signs): (- 0.0054)㠯⠿â ½ = 2.916 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿â ½5 (- 0.0044)㠯⠿â ½ = 1.936 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿â ½5 (0.0016)㠯⠿â ½ = 2.56 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿â ½6 (0.0036)㠯⠿â ½ = 1.296 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿â ½5 (0.0046)㠯⠿â ½ = 2.116 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿â ½5 4. These squares were then included, and the total was isolated by (n †1), where â€Å"n† is the quantity of qualities. = 2.13 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿â ½5 5. At long last, the square foundation of this number gives the standard deviation of the normal: = à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 4.615 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿⠽㠯⠿â ½ In any case, this worth is constantly adjusted to one huge figure (consequently, so is the normal worth) giving †à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 0.2 s. 6. This technique was utilized to get the standard deviation of the remainder of the four midpoints too. * The quantity of moles of the fluid contained in the drop was determined by the equation = Number of moles = . The relative molar masses of the four fluids were taken from writing esteems †Water †18 ; Glycerine †92 ; Ethanol †46 and Ethylene Glycol †62. (www.wikipedia.com) * The quantity of atoms present in the drop was discovered by utilizing Avogadro’s equation which states †Number of particles = Number of moles of the substance à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ (6.023 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿⠽㠯⠿â ½) Information handling †Chart 1 †This chart gives us two things †the mass of the fluid drop just as the quantity of particles each drop contains †of four unique fluids, which are set on the X pivot. Contrasting this diagram, and writing esteems, we can see there is a roundabout connection between the mass of the drop and the quantity of atoms. This relationship is in particular influenced by the relative molar mass (RMM) of the fluid. A higher RMM implies a lesser number of moles in a given volume, as is found on account of glycerine, where the quantity of particles apparently is generally lesser when contrasted with its mass; and different qualities. This implies glycerine’s atoms are substantial, enormous or increasingly thick. Though on account of water, the quantity of particles supposedly is a lot higher as thought about its mass †which recommends that water has a lower RMM, generally, and consequently is â€Å"lighter†, or littler, all in all. This chart likewise shows us bizarre outcomes with respect to the mass of the ethylene glycol drop. In fact, the ethylene glycol drop ought to have a more prominent mass as when contrasted with ethanol, as it has a more noteworthy RMM (esteem got from writing information) and a lesser number of particles. This could have been because of mistakes in the volume of the fluid drop (for instance), which have been clarified in the assessment. End †In this manner, we can finish up by expressing that the theory has been refuted for example as the relative sub-atomic mass of a fluid increments, or the mass of the fluid drop builds, the quantity of particles it contains diminishes. This is on the grounds that the relative molar mass is a proportion of the mass of one mole of a substance (comparative with 1/12 of the mass of carbon 12), and one mole of any substance comprises of a similar number of particles †6.023 à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½ 10㠯⠿⠽㠯⠿â ½. Be that as it may, one mole of a substance may contrast in mass from one mole of another substance. This is exclusively a result of the mass of the particles contained in that one mole of the substance. A compound which has I) numerous iotas ii) overwhelming particles (in one atom), will have a higher relative molar mass than a particle of a compound which has lesser molecules or lighter ones (or both). In this investigation, we are not estimating the quantity of particles in a single mole of these for substances, however in one drop. subsequently, the volume stays consistent here. In this way, the main way a drop of a substance (of a similar volume as the other three drops) will have more number of atoms than some other will be by the fluid having a lower RMM, so increasingly number of particles wou

When she is not running her blog you can usually find her behind a camera lens, riding motorcycles with her husband, or coloring with her 4-year-old son. She currently resides in Spokane, Washington.Hi Kumiko! Thanks so much for participating in our Holiday Budget QA! Can you begin by telling us a bit about yourself and your experience in budgeting and finance?Hello! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of OppLoans.I started working in the finance industry back in 2011, shortly after graduating from Eastern Washington University with a major in Finance.Like most people, when I graduated college, I had no clue on how to manage my money. I had excessive student loan debt, racked up credit cards, and I had no idea on how to handle it all.Shortly after graduating, I accepted a job at a local financial advisory firm, and that’s when I was forced to take a hard look at my personal finances. I sat down, created a budget and started a debt payoff plan. After five years, I have paid off over $20,000 in credit card debt and more than $10,000 in student loan debt. During my financial journey, I developed a deep passion for financial literacy, and in 2015 I obtained my Accredited Financial Counselor ® designation so I could help people find the same success and freedom that I found.Budgeting changed my life, and I know it can change other people’s lives as well.Budgeting changed my life, and I know it can change other people’s lives as well.My passion to help others led to the creation of The Budget Mom, a blog I created to help people manage their money in all stages of life. It’s the ultimate online resource for real women who are looking to live a life they love on a budget they can afford. For me, financial freedom isn’t just about the right budgeting techniques or the best way to save money. It’s about accepting who you are, what you want, and making lifestyle changes to achieve those things.Throughout my financial journey, I have realized two things. First, your real self is more important than your ideal self and secondly, and more importantly, a life of abundance is not about what you have but how you live. What would you say is the biggest challenge for families trying to budget for the holiday season? There are a lot of challenges when it comes to budgeting for the holidays. One of those challenges is overspending. It is so easy to go over budget when you are attempting to keep up with the spending of others and are buying gifts out of guilt. If you have a small budget to work with, don’t feel like the scrooge if you are not spending or giving as much as friends and relatives .Last minute holiday shopping also makes budgeting hard. With convincing holiday sales, extra gifts can add up, even if they arent that expensive. Adding additional people to your holiday gift buying list also can cause financial stress during the holidays.Another big challenge I see when it comes to budgeting for the holidays is counting on holiday bonuses as guaranteed income. You should never include bonus money in your holiday budget. If you do overspend, and the bonus never happens, this can lead to a financial hole that you might be digging yourself out of for a long time.Forgetting to add holiday expenses to your budget can also result in significant problems. Gift giving only makes up one part of your holiday budget. Make sure you add other costs such as food, travel expenses, gas, and holiday décor to your holiday budget. The best rule when it comes to budgeting for the holidays is, if you are going to spend money on it, it needs to be in your budget. How can parents prepar e themselves and their finances for the upcoming holiday season? You have to have a plan. That’s the best and most valuable advice I can give to parents. Without it, you are setting yourself up for failure. The best way to prepare your finances is to create a holiday budget.Take one night out of your week and sit down with your significant other. It’s important that everyone in the house is on the same page.During this time, take a chance to determine how much you want to spend. Write out a list of the things you want to spend money on and how much you want to spend for each category. Here is a list of some of the most common holiday expenses:Gifts (list the amount per person)Gas and travel expensesHoliday décorCharitable offeringsHoliday photos and greeting cardsHoliday clothingFoodDuring this time, make sure you separate your wants from your needs. You may want to spend $500 on professional family photos, but maybe you can only afford to have pictures taken at your house by a family friend. Its an excellent idea to set boundaries on how much you are willing to spend on each child. As parents, this will allow you to stay on track. Once you have your limits set, the only job you have is sticking to them. It’s also handy to label each expense by priority. Prioritizing will help you if you are short on funds. Simply eliminate the things that are not that important and keep the things that matter to you. What common tips or tricks for a frugal holiday do you use in your own life? Do they always work?I have always been a creative at heart. I love doing artwork and crafts. In fact, it’s something that I enjoy doing with my son.One of the ways we keep costs down during the holiday season is by making a lot of our own holiday décor. I am a huge Dollar Store DIY lover and a lot of the decorations you see in my house are things that only cost me a few dollars. Of course, when you are working with unconventional materials and a tutorial you have never seen before, things can go wrong.Another area we save during the holidays is by shopping at thrift or consignment shops. For the last 3 years, I was able to purchase my son’s Halloween costume for less than $10. Some of the best things to buy at the thrift store include:Christmas tree decorationsChildren clothingDinner placemat settingsYou could easily spend more than $100 on Christmas tree decorations at a normal store. Some of the more elaborate Christmas tree decorations can cost you more than $10 each. My son and I like to go and get the Christmas tree ball ornaments and paint them when we get home. It makes the decorations on the tree more of a holiday tradition than just a pretty decoration.Of course, life happens and things don’t always work out. We spent a whole day looking for a Halloween costume this year for my son, and we just couldn’t find one that fit him at our normal thrift store. It was poorer planning on my part, as we got a late start this year on Halloween.Check back t omorrow for Part II!Visit OppLoans on YouTube | Facebook | Twitter | LinkedIN

Summary On The Allegory Of Shirley Jacksons The Lottery

Shirley Jackson’s story â€Å"The Lottery† serves as an allegory regarding humankinds inherent to be cruel and society’s ability to inure to violence. The author’s use of a third-person dramatic narrative combined with strong themes, symbols and irony clearly supports the lesson Jackson was trying to portray. Jackson’s short story shows how easy it is to be hostile when a group of villagers with a herd mentality blindly follow an outdated tradition and that evil knows no boundaries. Jackson starts the story out depicting the day as â€Å"clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green† (Jackson 1). The village men were â€Å"speaking of planting and rain,†¦show more content†¦This statement supports what Jackson was trying to convey because rather than the villagers knowing the meaning behind the ritual, they can only remember the murderous, violent p art of it. This ceremony had become so customary and routine that even the children had made â€Å"piles of stones† ready to participate in the lottery. Children are supposed to be considered innocent and uncorrupt but in this story it just goes to show that cruelty is inherent. Jackson’s story also displays the theme of hypocrisy. The author uses the story’s target Tessie Hutchinson to represent that theme. The audience could assume that Tessie is well known village woman who only any normal day would partake in this event. When Tessie discovers her fate as the winner she becomes self-serving saying â€Å"it isn’t fair, it isn’t right† (Jackson 7). It is duplicitous because if she was not the victim then she would have no objections, but now that she is the fatality the lottery suddenly is corrupt. The author aimed to indicate that society has a predisposition to become habituated to unkind things so long as they believe they will not be ne gatively affected by it. The author uses contextual symbols and symbols in general to support â€Å"The Lottery’s† meaning. Mr. Summers name is an example of a contextual symbol. The word summer would make the audience think of new beginnings and positivity. Explain what is meant in the Bible by the phrase “God is good.” Free Essays

A) Explain what is meant in the Bible by the phrase â€Å"God is good. † Many worshippers of God like to believe that he is intrinsically good; this means that he is good in himself. People try to argue this by the Bible and through many things in the Bible such as the 10 commandments and the creation of the universe as well as the many miracles of the Saints. We will write a custom essay sample on Explain what is meant in the Bible by the phrase â€Å"God is good.† or any similar topic only for you Order Now God is seen to act morally good as he creates a world which is seen to be good, therefore he must be. â€Å"God saw that it was good, and it was good. † The Ten Commandments show us what good is according to God. The Ten Commandments explain to us how we should act and what our religious and social duties should be. God could be said to be showing his love for this through these laws. Another common biblical image of God is that of a judge to whom we all answer to, however, if God is seen as a judge â€Å"Psalms 75:7 But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another,† then he must be trying to divide the good from the bad, we could see this as God trying to protect the people who worship him from the sinners, however it is hard to distinguish the bad from the good. The Ten Commandments offer a guide for this, so that we can see what is wrong and what is right, so therefore we could see this as a good act of God as throughout the Bible God demonstrates his desire for justice for his people. People may follow the Ten Commandments because they are scared of the possibility of going to Hell or that they are so full of faith for the Lord that they follow them without thinking, that if it is the wish of God then they must act and follow these rules. The Old Testament displays God as being vengeful and punishing those who sin, whereas in the New he is seen as being forgiving and loving. These are two sides of God which keep people obeying the Ten Commandments, as there are two opinions of him, one that he is punishing and the other that he is forgiving. God also punishes those because he loves all people and love involves showing another what they have done is wrong so they can learn from it. God could be seen as good, as even though he punishes those who have sinned, if they repent they can go to Heaven, which means he gives everyone a chance. God is a transcendent being therefore some people believe that we cannot  understand God’s actions as it is far too complex for us to comprehend. This is written in the Bible with the story of Issac and Abraham. In Genesis 22 as a test for Abraham God says to him â€Å"Take your son, your only son, Issac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering. † Abraham responded to God’s command with immediate obedience. Christians believe that if we obey God without question and trust that His plan is best we exalt His qualities and praise Him. Due to Abraham’s unwavering trust and faith in God provides Christians with an example they must follow. As God saw Abraham’s belief in Him an Angel came down to Abraham and told him he could sacrifice a ram instead. God uses Abraham’s faith as an example of the type of faith required for salvation. This type of faith in the Lord is the basis for the Christian religion and that we should follow in this way when we receive the Christian faith for the sacrifice God made for our sins, Jesus Christ. We may not know what He has planned but that it must be for the greater good so we must follow His wishes. Not only do people have faith in God, but in the Bible and that we are lead to believe God is good and nothing else. Jesus Christ preformed many miracles in the Bible such as feeding the 5,000, raising a widow’s son from the dead and healing a paralysed man as well as many more. Not only that but there are over 10,000 people that have been canonised including St. Joan of Arc, St. Francis of Assisi and St. Valentine. To become a Saint you have to perform a miracle and it be recognised by the Catholic Church. Miracles bring much happiness and joy to people and the act can rarely be explained, surely these acts are a great act of God and must be good if they bring happiness. People also believe God is good because he keeps human kind in some sort of order. Law breaking is bad therefore we are punished if we do break the law. The law is there to make us be good individuals and do the right thing according to society. When we follow the law we are told we are being good and are rewarded with a chance to go to Heaven, this is told to us in the Bible. A chance at getting to Heaven is an incentive for us to do good deeds and abide the law. We then read from this that if we are good we are rewarded and if we are bad we are punished which keeps people abiding by the law and why so many people over thousands of years have been scared at the prospect of going to Hell. People could view this as God keeping us in line and not letting us stray and do the wrong thing; in essence he is saving us from going to Hell by creating laws and putting them in place so we know what is right and wrong. In conclusion, the phrase â€Å"God is good† in the Bible means that God in himself is good, he can never be otherwise as he is just good. His acts are good and the punishment he inflicts on others is so they change their ways and realise what they’ve done and repent their sins. He does this out of love for every human as we are created in his image and he wants us all to be cleansed of sin and go to Heaven. He uses the Ten Commandments to set these guidelines for us and help us on our journey to Heaven as well as showing us some of his goodness with the miracles that can occur in this world. The miracles that we hear of in the Bible make many people wonder what Heaven is actually like if something so great is described and it makes people seek out repentance as well as being good ourselves so we are allowed to go to Heaven. B) â€Å"It is difficult to believe in a God who is perfectly good. † (10) Many sceptics of God and the Christian faith think that it’s hard to believe there is a God that is good in himself and can’t be anything but that. Not only that but many people also believe that he is not good, as so much punishment is shown in the Old Testament and the idea that God created Hell in the first place to punish people who sin. People argue that if God is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and omnibenevolent he would not let natural disasters to happen, even though Christians say natural disasters happen to punish humankind for our sins. The Lord God of the Scriptures says this about himself. â€Å"For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.† As well as this, it is also written in Psalm 5:5 â€Å"You hate all who do wrong,† therefore it is hard to believe that God is a forgiving and loving God who accepts everyone, if he hates all who do wrong, even if they are regretful about it. In many different scriptures God is described as wrathful and punishes those who do wrong, this was most likely written to stop people from sinning and obey the 10 Commandments. This still does not make people want to believe in him, however, and many people question whether God can be perfectly good if he is punishing those who do the slightest thing wrong even if it was to help someone else. If God is being described as jealous and hateful, then we can deduce that he is not all good as he has a capacity to hate, which is seen as negative by most. He is also described as warmongering as he constantly is battling evil and Satan. People could say these wars are necessary and that he must protect us from Hell and the Devil, however in the New Testament it completely goes against this describing him as peaceful and forgiving so it is difficult to know whether he is punishing the sinners for the rest of humankind’s benefit or that he is just being hateful towards anyway who slightly steps out of line. Moreover, the story of Abraham and Issac also challenge our idea of God being all peaceful as he asks Abraham to sacrifice his son which he is willing to do. A lot of non-believers would ask why God asks this in the first place as it seems completely morally wrong to tell a father to kill his only child. Christians argue this was to test Abraham’s faith in God, but surely Abraham would feel conflicted about doing this if he cared for Issac at all. This could tell people who do not believe in God that God almost corrupts people who worship him as they think that is the most important thing to do in life and nothing else. This could be an example of one of the ways God isn’t perfectly good if he commands the people who follow him to kill their own children to prove they have faith in him. Not only that but if there is evil in the world to start with, God must have created this evil, therefore how can he be all good? God created Hell and all his Angels, Lucifer, one of his angels was cast out from Heaven and sent to Hell where he became known as the Devil. God did not create evil as nothing evil can come from God. Satan and other demons were at first good angels, created by God, but they became evil of their own free will, given by God. This â€Å"fall† was a free choice of these created spirits, who rejected God and his reign. Therefore Christians would say that it was not God’s fault however he created Heaven and Hell therefore he must have known or considered there to be some evil in the world. Many people can see why Christians believe in God, that there are so many different texts saying he is our protector and that he loves humankind and is forgiving and all-knowing. However I do agree with the statement â€Å"It is difficult to believe in a God who is perfectly good,† as there are many texts that also say he is vengeful, wrathful and warmongering. It says he is hateful and that he condemns sinners so it’s hard to believe in a God when there are two sides to the story. When there are stories of God commanding people to kill their children to prove their faith and that God created Hell in the first place. Christians like to believe in God for security as they believe him to be intrinsically good, but how do they know this is true when there is so much punishment and hate in some of the scriptures describing him. This is why many people are sceptical that he exists and if he is actually all good. How to cite Explain what is meant in the Bible by the phrase â€Å"God is good.†, Papers

Violence In Schools Essays (497 words) - Crime, Violence

Violence In Schools Violence in schools has increased throughout the nation in the last few years. This has caused many problems among students, families, faculty, and residents that populate the surrounding area. The cause of violence can be blamed on a variety of things, such as drugs, gangs, and the unstable mentality of adolescents. A combination of these three factors leads to violence in the schools. Just think of all the school shootings that have happened in the past few years. Most of these have been because the student could not handle the rejection of their classmates and they took out their anger through violence. Drugs and gangs have also been on the increase in the past few years. More people are selling and buying drugs, and getting involved with the gang mentality. This increase in money and gang involvement brings a harder and more violent life for the youth of America. This growth of gangs and their drug usage has been implicated in the increasing violence of school youths. Experts have also said that most violent conflicts among school-age children can be traced back to long-simmering disputes. Carrying guns and other weapons around schools have become a more popular way to deal with these disputes all around the world. Adolescents tend to think that carrying guns around school with them will make them cool or give them power over others. Many believe that guns offer an easy way to settle these disputes. They are wrong. The only power that a weapon gives them is to create hate, suffering, and more sorrow than there was before hand. More people are carrying guns around today's schools. Many are getting caught and having the weapons taken away from them. Since schools have implemented metal detectors, scanners, video cameras, and security guards, they have cut down the rate of having handguns in schools by over fifty percent. Security experts have reported that there is no evidence that a metal detector will solve the problem of violence in schools. What metal detectors and other security measures do is to offer a highly visible symbol to the community. Even with all these security measures implemented into schools there are still a variety of ways that weapons can be brought in, such as through side windows and side entrances if there are minimal security devices at these doors. In conclusion, the solution to this problem should start in the home. The home environment is the most influential part of an adolescent's life. The parents should take the time to try to understand their children. This is very laborious to accomplish because adolescence is a very difficult time during the growth process. If a student is found to be struggling or going through a rough time, the student should have meetings with the school officials and the parents. By doing this, many problems that arouse can be eliminated before the problem blows up and many innocent people are damaged for life. Social Issues

Ryanair Competitor Analysis Essays

Ryanair Competitor Analysis Essays Ryanair Competitor Analysis Paper Ryanair Competitor Analysis Paper The firms within the market engage in price wars where they cut prices to grab a larger market share. The firms maintain their customers loyalty by offering the low air fares and brand themselves through advertising. Some customers may stick to an airline provider for some reasons such as convenience, flexibility and brand loyalty. Therefore, when another firm sells at a higher price, it doesnt mean that the customer will switch airlines. However, it also isnt mean that the customers wont switch because are no restrictions or switching costs involved. A factor which may cause customers to switch is when the price difference is too high to tolerate. In this market there is a significant barrier to entry because of the high set up cost. It is also difficult to penetrate the market because of the 3 major firms which accounts for a huge market share. The LLC market also shows some characteristics of monopolistic competition because of there are many other LLC airlines. There are also no legal barriers to entry because there are legal restrictions to enter the market. Moreover, the governments show that they want to encourage competition in this industry when the Irish government rejected a takeover of Are Lingua by Ryan in 2009 (Reuters). Conduct Ryan conducts its business by cutting costs and lowering air fare prices. The company cuts cost through many ways such as using secondary airports, reducing the weight of their airplanes, reducing staff costs, removing bookings through travel agents and removing in-flight meals. The company commits to the basic service to their customer which is flying them from one place to another without delays. Any ore than that, the customers will be charged. Ryan charges the customers for various things such as in-flight meals, payment handling fees, wheelchair usage and online check-in (BBC 2009). The company also charges their staffs for training and interview sessions to reduce staff costs (Creator 2005). Since Ryan aims to provide the lowest air fare prices, they maximize airplanes capacity by removing business class and first class space. There are no pricing agreements arranged between other LLC operators, therefore, the prices of tickets varies. Non-price competition also exists in the LLC market.

Pronunciation of Words With Weak and Strong Forms

Pronunciation of Words With Weak and Strong Forms English is a stress-time language which means that some words are stressed and others are not when speaking. Generally, content words such as nouns and principal verbs are stressed, while structure words such as articles, helping verbs, etc. are not.   The Structure of Words A number of structure words have both weak and strong pronunciation. As a rule, the structure will take the weak pronunciation which means that the vowel becomes muted. For example, take a look at these sentences: I can play piano.Tom is from New England. Here are these two sentences with accented words in italics. Mary can play piano.Tom is from Chicago. Can, and from and is are unaccented and the vowel is very weak. This weak vowel sound is often referred to as a schwa. In the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) the schwa is represented as an upside-down e. It is, however, also possible to use these words with a strong form. Take a look at the same structure words, but used with strong pronunciation: You CANT  play tennis. - Yes, I CAN.Where is Tom FROM? In these two sentences, the placement at the end of the sentence calls for the strong pronunciation of the word. In other cases, the usually unaccented word becomes accented as a means of stressing that something is contrary to what is understood by others. Look at these two sentences in a dialogue. You arent interested in coming next week, are you?Yes, I AM interested in coming! Try the following exercise to practice both the weak and strong form.  Write two sentences: One sentence using the weak form, and one using the strong form. Try practicing these sentences taking care to quickly glide over the vowel in the weak form, or pronouncing the vowel or diphthong sound firmly in the strong form. Here are a few examples: Ive heard you have a company in the city. No, I work FOR a company in the city. What are you looking for? She is our sister.OUR sister is so talented! Practice Activity Decide how the word indicated would change the meaning in the following sentences when using the strong form. Practice saying each sentence aloud alternating between weak and strong forms. Do you notice how the meaning changes through stress? I am an English teacher in Portland, Oregon. - strong amI am an English teacher from Portland, Oregon. - strong fromHe said that she should see a doctor. - strong shouldThey were able to find a job despite the difficult market. - strong wereDo you know where he comes from? - strong doIll give the assignment to them. - strong themShes one of our most valued students. - strong ourId like Tom and Andy to come to the party. - strong and Answers I AM an English teacher ... Its true even though you dont believe it..... teacher FROM Portland, Oregon. Thats my home city, but not necessarily where I live and teach now.  ... that she SHOULD see a doctor. Its my advice, not an obligation. They WERE able to find a job ... It was possible for them though you think not.DO you know where ... Do you know the answer to this question or not?... the assignment to THEM. Not you, the others.Shes one of OUR most valued students. She is one of us, not of you or them.... Tom AND Andy ... Not only Tom, dont forget Andy. Here are some of the most common words that have weak/strong pronunciations. Generally speaking, use the week form (schwa) pronunciation of these words unless they are stressed by coming at the end of a sentence or due to unnatural stress made to facilitate understanding.   Common Weak and Strong Words a / am / an / and / are / as / atbe / been / butcan / coulddo / doesfor / fromhad / has / have / he / her / him / hisismustnotof / ourshall / she / should / somethan / that / the / them / there / touswas / we / were / who / would / willyou / your

The Utilitarian View of Divorce Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

The Utilitarian View of Divorce - Essay Example These parties include the spouses, the children, the families, and the state. A settlement may be reached based on utilitarian individualism, a decision based on the self-interest of the spouses. It may also be reached through the process of utilitarian republicanism, an outcome based on what is best for the public, or the biblical traditions of morality. In fact, the outcome of a divorce, and the subsequent settlement agreements, will be a mixture of multiple ethical models. While the decision to get a divorce has moved farther towards utilitarian individualist attitudes, the outcome is still heavily influenced by civic republicanism and biblical traditions. The divorce process has traditionally been monitored and totally controlled by social institutions outside the interested family. Churches discouraged divorce through the threat of excommunication and damnation. The state regulated divorce through a series of laws and courts designed not only to protect everyone's interest and serve justice, but to minimize the impact on society. The state took the utilitarian stand that the outcome of a divorce needs to produce the greatest public good possible. Before the recent innovation of no-fault divorce and private spousal agreements, "Divorce was granted only after an official inquiry by a judge, who had to determine whether "appropriate grounds"-very narrowly defined in terms of marital offenses-existed. When a divorce was granted, the state asserted broad authority to structure the economic relationship of the spouses and to maintain regulatory jurisdiction over the children and their relationship to the parents" (Mnookin and Kornhauser 9 53). Today, liberalized divorce laws and private divorce agreements have moved the desirable outcome of a divorce from the public good and into the private good. Bellah's contention that we are moving further into a utilitarian society, at a social cost (in this case divorce), is evidenced by the move from a concern for the public good, as dictated by the courts, to the private happiness sought through today's easy path to divorce. When a spouse, or a couple, make the decision to get divorced the decision is made based on the self-interest of one or both parties. Without a utilitarian attitude, couples may be more prone to stay together out of concern for their children and the health of the family unit. They may subscribe to behaviors that they may find disagreeable or burdensome. John Stuart Mill defined utilitarianism as the Happiness Principle which "holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness. By happiness is intended pleasure, and the absence of pain; by unhappiness, pain, and the privation of pleasure" (15). Happiness, and the absence of pain, are the moral standards by which utilitarianism makes its choice. Staying in a painful marriage may be made by other moral systems, but utilitarianism would endure it only if the happiness and stability of the family brought a greater reward to the injured spouse than the act o f divorce. While divorce in the past was highly stigmatized, today it is commonplace. The social stigmatization of staying single has also been reduced and "Divorce as a solution to an unhappy marriage, even a marriage with young children, is far more acceptable today than ever before" (Bellah et al. 90). Sustainable and ethical tourism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Sustainable and ethical tourism - Essay Example People do not have time to spend with their families to sit back, relax and talk. It’s all about accumulating wealth and how much can you accumulate. Under such intrigue situations people all over the world go on holidays and vacations whenever they get time to spend with their loved ones. Choosing a tourist destination is not that simple today, now you need to consider a number of factors before you make the final decision. Majority of the mass tourism today is dominated by travelers that want to explore the world and to discover the secrets and signs hidden in its beauty, matter and treasures. The market dynamics in today’s brisk paced world have revolutionized. Media empowerment, advancement of internet and technology and emergence of public entities, social groups and Non Government Organizations have revolutionized the market place from top to toe in all respects. Today the consumer is obstinate from a marketer’s perspective and has the power and liberty to repudiate or purchase, literally, anything based on personal liking and choice. This is how the marketplace works in the real world today with the emergence and existence of a new concept known to us as consumerism (Assadourin, 2010). The tourists today are also aware of the morals and ethics of travelling and they really take care of the fact that they are visiting places that offer healthy and genuine mass tourism. Healthy and genuine mass tourism refers to the fact that the culture and the heritage that is portrayed as local are original and not captured or illegally acquired. Similarly greener environments are preferred over places that are not environment friendly. Similarly with growing political tension in different parts of the world, terrorism and discriminatory acts have labeled some of the greatest tourist destinations as no go zones and this has led to the shift in interests of and choices made by tourists to decide upon their dream location for vacation (J.D Roth, 2011) . Mass tourism Industry and its impact on economy After the recession the global economy is still recovering from its aftershocks and after effects. The recession blew away all the mega structures that were created by the financial gurus and the corporate masterminds for the economic stability of Global business community. All their efforts literally went in vain as their hard work of years did not enable their businesses to survive a couple of years of economic downturn. As the disastrous recession of 2007-08 comes to an end, the corporate sectors and the global economies look for industries that are virtually recession proof and that will help them come out of the recession more quickly than others. One such industry is the Global Mass tourism Industry. According to mercopress.com the Global Mass tourism Industry accounts for 9% percent of the world GDP and 8% of the total world employment. These are big numbers and by 2019 the Global Mass tourism Industry is expected to create 29 6 million jobs worldwide. The former discussion

Teens and Sex - Abortion and Teenagers :: Argumentative Persuasive Topics

Abortion And Teenagers Throughout the semester, I have been researching information concerning abortion. Many people are totally against abortion, while others feel that there is nothing wrong with it. Some say that even if the fetus is one week or 45 weeks old it is still considered murder. Where do we draw a line? It is obvious that there will never be a right or wrong answer. Every women should have the right to do what she wants. Whether it is abortion or not. Some say that even contraception is wrong. Martin Luther called contraception homicide. One man said that who ever uses contraceptives would lose their souls. This does relate to abortion because if a couple only has sex just to initiate life, then there would be less diseases, very little abortions, and not many adoptions. Throughout the semester, I have been researching some of the many issues that relate to abortion. There are a few questions from type "A" category that I will try to answer based on what I have read throughout the semester. Many people often wonder what type of restrictions or shall I say rules are there for different states. In Pennsylvania, there is a requirement that teenagers show the consent of one parent or a judge, and another that puts a 24-hour waiting period for a woman after hearing a presentation from her doctor of alternatives to abortion. There has also been a provision that would have required women to inform their husbands if they wanted to have an abortion. Since states cannot ban abortion completely, they are trying to push restrictions like those in Pennsylvania. In most states, there will be a decision on whether or not teens have the right to obtain an abortion without involving their parents in the decision. Some say that if this actually goes through, then teens might seek an illegal abortion in their own state or might even consider self-abortion. States are also considering consent from the father and they are considering prohibiting the use of federal funds for abortions which might limit the teens options. Many pregnant teens avoid having an abortion, but then turn to adoption. It is estimated that approximately 3% of pregnant adolescents will place their infant for adoption. Some authors say that increasing the difficulty of having an abortion will have an effect on adoptions. They argue that pregnant adolescents will turn to adoptions instead, but then again the reason that there is such a low adoption rate is because of the legalization of abortions in the United States.

Harris on End Times Essay

: Hey, John. What are in you today? You don’t look as upbeat as usual. Is there anything that I can do to help you? John: I don’t know, but perhaps you can. You see, I am taking Eschatology 1. My professor is weird. On top of that, he is a lousy lecturer. I can’t understand what he’s saying. And I can’t even understand my notes! I have to study it and read the book of Revelation in order to pass his test. Steven: Let me see. Hmmm. You’re not a good note taker; it’s very obvious. But I guest your professor isn’t an organized lecturer. Well, you can always read my book and†¦ John: But the exam is four hours away! Steven: Oh my goodness. You are definitely in trouble. Listen, I will lecture you briefly on the main points that you will need to pass this test. Listen carefully, and I hope you’ll get an A. John: Ok Steven: From Chapter 15 of my book, I said the Revelation can be outlined as follows: 1. Prologue: the author’s self-identification and au ¬thority (1:1-20) 2. Jesus’ letters to the seven churches of Asia Minor (2:1-3:22) 3. Visions from heaven: breaking seven seals on a scroll; seven trumpets (4:1-11:19) 4. Signs in heaven: visions of the woman, the dragon, the beast, the Lamb, and the seven plagues (12:1-16:21) 5. Visions of the â€Å"great whore† and the fall of Babylon (Rome) (17:1-18:24) 6. Visions of the eschaton: the warrior Messiah, the imprisonment of the beast and Satan, judgment of the dead, and the final defeat of evil (19:1-20:15) 7. Visions of the â€Å"new heaven and a new earth†; descent of the heavenly Jerusalem to earth (21:1-22:5) 8. Epilogue: authenticity of the author’s prophetic visions and the nearness of their fulfilment (22:6-21). In addition, many of John’s imagery and style came from Old Testament Apocalyptic Literature, and†¦ John: Wait, you mean principles of interpretation in Daniel and others such as â€Å"one apocalyptic day = one literal year† also holds in Revelation? Steven: That’s right! John: So everything I’ve learned in the previous term about Hebrew Prophecy can also be used here? Precisely the reason why I had to take Hermeneutics 2 and Hebrew Prophecy before I study Revelation? Steven: You betcha†¦ John: So first, let me recap. Let’s take a look at the terms the Lamb, the dragon, the heav ¬enly woman, the whore, and the marriage of the Lamb and the heavenly city. They are not literal being but symbols of another referent, right? Steven: Yes, and to take you to the shortcut, the historical belief is the Lamb is Jesus Christ, the dragon is a figure of Satan, the whore is his church the Roman Catholic Church, the marriage of the Lamb symbolizes the union of the Christian Church of the aggregate of the true believers after the Rapture, and the heavenly city is a picture of our destiny with Jesus Christ. Though I find it personally hard to accept that it is literally as described, but I do not really show that in the book because I do not want to offend my Christian brother.

The Purpose of Authority in Shakespeares A Midsummer...

The Purpose of Authority in A Midsummer Nights Dream Whether its Athens or London, cities have laws, and civilized life has rules. It is impossible to have a population that agrees with all the rules and laws of the state they are subject to. If a group disagrees with a rule or law enough to cause civil unrest it can be a major problem for the authority of the state. One way to mitigate civil unrest, and remind citizens of how good they have it, is through purposeful entertainment. In Act III:ii of A Midsummer Nights Dream, Shakespeare uses the forest to emphasize the trivial nature of the problems between the young lovers and advocate the benefits of citizenship. The play starts by presenting the problems of the characters and establishing the authority of the city of Athens. When Lysander and Hermia decide to flee the city in search of romantic freedom, the forest is their refuge from the â€Å"sharp Athenian law† (1.1.162), but after being left shaken by their dreamlike experience in the forest the four characters long for the familiar Athens. In this play, the uncertainty of the forest represents life outside the rules of the city. Shakespeares forest scene not only plays on the fears of a God fearing, superstitious population, but also panders to the average working person by displaying the petty quarrels of young nobles, while at the same time taking no power away from the real ruling authorities. This accomplishes a few things.
